Terms and Conditions

  1. This contest (“Contest”) is jointly organised by Singapore Press Holdings Limited (“SPH”) and the National Museum of Singapore, an institution of the National Heritage Board (“NHB”), (collectively the “Organisers”).

  2. Participation in the Contest is subject to the Contests & Lucky Draws Terms and Conditions available at http://sph.com.sg/terms-and-conditions/online-contests (“General T&Cs”) and these Terms and Conditions (“Specific T&Cs”) (collectively “T&Cs”). In the event of any inconsistency between the Specific T&Cs and the General T&Cs, the Specific T&Cs shall prevail. Submission of any entry is deemed acceptance of the T&Cs and any amendments, additions, replacements, variations and modifications hereto, which shall be final and binding in all respects on each submission. Amendments to the T&Cs will be posted at this webpage. Non-compliance with or breach of any of these T&Cs may disqualify a participant at any stage of the Contest, and any prizes won may be forfeited, withheld, withdrawn or reclaimed.

  3. Employees of SPH and its related corporations (“SPH Group”), NHB and their respective partners and/or sponsors for the Contest, as well as the immediate family members (including spouses, children, parents, brothers and sisters) of such employees are not eligible to participate in the Contest. Participants must be at least 13 years old at the time of the submission of their entries. Winner(s) may be required to sign a written statement confirming their eligibility before prize collection.

  4. Each participant affirms the accuracy of all information provided at the time of submission. Any misrepresentation of any fact or particulars (deemed material by the Organisers) may result in disqualification and/or the forfeiture, withholding, withdrawal or reclaiming of any prizes.

  5. The Organisers reserve the right, at any time in their sole and absolute discretion, to substitute, withdraw, add to or alter any of the prizes offered without prior notice to the participants.

  6. Participants may submit either:

    1. a personal photograph in a digital format with the following specifications - Format: JPG, Size: Less than 1MB and an accompanying story of not more than 500 characters; or

    2. a personal story of not more than 500 characters;

    in response to the themes and photographs published in The Straits Times' Picture This feature between 20 January 2020 and 24 February 2020, and the 20 January 2020 version of IN (a student publication published by The Straits Times) through the Photonico platform at https://hometruly.photonico.asia/ and include all required information.

  7. Each participant represents and warrants that his or her entry is original and does not infringe on the copyright or other intellectual property rights of any person.

  8. Each participant may make multiple submissions, but is only entitled to win one prize in the Contest.

  9. The Contest runs from 20 January 2020, 0600 to 1 March 2020, 2359. Submissions after the closing date/time will not be entertained.

  10. Winners of the Contest will be selected by the Organisers, in their sole and absolute discretion.

  11. Winners of the Contest will be notified via the email address provided at the time of entry submission. Winners will receive an email containing the details for the collection of their prizes. If a selected winner cannot be contacted or fails to respond within 5 days of the first notification, such winner will be deemed to have forfeited the prize and disqualified, and another winner will be selected.

  12. Winners will each receive prizes as listed on https://hometruly.photonico.asia/faq.html. Prizes must be claimed personally by the winners with proof of identification. In the event of any discrepancy between the entry submitted and the documents produced for verification, the entry will be deemed as disqualified and the prize forfeited. If any winner is unable to collect the prize personally, he or she may produce an authorisation letter (in the format acceptable to SPH) to authorise a proxy to collect on his or her behalf. Winners and authorised proxies are required to provide the appropriate identification documents for verification when collecting their prizes.

  13. The Organisers’ decisions in relation to all aspects of the Contest are final. No enquiries, appeals, verbal or written, will be entertained. The participants shall accept and abide by any and all decisions made by the Organisers’ concerning, without limitation, the T&Cs, any other rules, procedures and regulations of the Contest, the award of prizes and any other matters relating to the Contest.

  14. By making a submission for the Contest, each participant agrees that:

    1. Any and all personal data submitted or disclosed may be collected by, used by and/or disclosed to the SPH Group and NHB for various purposes, including to administer and publicise the Contest, to communicate with the participant for purposes related to the Contest and such other purposes that the SPH Group and NHB may reasonably deem appropriate, or in relation to which the participant has otherwise provided SPH Group and NHB with consent;

    2. The SPH Group and NHB may collect, use, disclose and share amongst themselves and their respective service providers, the Contest entries for publicity and/or use in advertisements across all media, including, without limitation, in SPH Group’s and NHB’s publications, presentations, promotional materials on their websites, in its original or edited format, and whether to promote the Contest or otherwise without further notification, remuneration or compensation; and

    3. The copyright and all other intellectual property rights in and to all Contest entries shall vest solely and absolutely in the Organisers without further compensation. To avoid doubt, this shall include the right of NHB to use, reproduce and display selected Contest entries as part of the ‘Home, Truly: Growing Up with Singapore, 1950s to the Present’ exhibition scheduled to be held from August 2020 to February 2021 at the National Museum of Singapore, and in exhibition-related collaterals and publicity materials, and to publicly credit the relevant participants.

  15. Participants shall not, without the prior written approval of the Organisers, speak to the press or any media nor give any interviews or comments relating to the Contest.

  16. SPH Group, NHB and their respective partners and/or sponsors for the Contest (if applicable) shall not be liable for any loss (including, without limitation, indirect or consequential loss), damage, personal injury or death in connection with the Contest, or any prize except any liability that cannot be excluded by law (in which case that liability is limited to the minimum allowable by law). If applicable, all warranty claims in regards to a prize should be directed to the applicable manufacturer or provider of that prize. Except to the extent that they may not be excluded by law, no representations, warranties, terms or conditions that are not expressly stated in these terms and conditions apply to the Contest nor in respect of the prizes and all implied warranties are excluded, including but not limited to, the implied warranties of satisfactory quality, merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose of any of the prizes.

  17. Prizes are not transferable or exchangeable and non-cash prizes cannot be exchanged for cash. Prizes are subject to availability and the Organisers have the right to substitute any prize for a comparable prize of equal or greater value to be awarded in lieu, subject to any applicable law.

  18. Winners are responsible for arranging transport, delivery and insurance of their own prizes, and all taxes, charges, levies, fees and all other expenses or charges in relation thereto.

  19. The Organisers are not obliged to award all prizes. Any prizes which are not won or remain unclaimed after one (1) month of the announcement of the winners will be forfeited.

  20. The T&Cs shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Singapore and each participant submits to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Singapore Courts.
